The Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, received a farewell courtesy call from His Excellency Gerhard Doujak, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Austria to Trinidad and Tobago at the Ministry’s headquarters on 23rd April, 2025. Ambassador Doujak, who is also Austria's Ambassador to several other Caribbean and Latin American nations as well as to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), will conclude his assignment in July 2025. The meeting commenced with Minister Browne presenting Ambassador Doujak with a locally crafted miniature steelpan and a book on Trinidad and Tobago's national musical instrument.
During their discussion, Minister Browne acknowledged the enduring friendship between Trinidad and Tobago and Austria, which dates back to 1967 with the establishment of diplomatic relations. He expressed gratitude for Austria's collaborative support within multilateral organizations, highlighting their co-sponsorship of the UN Resolution designating 11th August as World Steelpan Day. Minister Browne also recognized Ambassador Doujak's efforts in fostering bilateral cooperation in key sectors such as health, education and tourism.
Ambassador Doujak conveyed his sincere appreciation for the friendship and cooperation extended by Minister Browne, whom he credited with facilitating deeper bilateral relations between both countries. Minister Browne reciprocated by thanking Ambassador Doujak for his unwavering dedication to strengthening ties between Austria and Trinidad and Tobago and with the wider CARICOM region, and wished him well in his future endeavours.
