Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, warmly welcomed His Excellency Dr. Akima Umezawa, Ambassador-designate of Japan to Trinidad and Tobago, during a courtesy call at the Ministry’s Headquarters on the morning of January 28, 2025.
This meeting occurred prior to Ambassador Umezawa's formal presentation of his Letters of Credence to Her Excellency, Christine Carla Kangaloo, O.R.T.T., President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
Minister Browne congratulated Ambassador Umezawa on his appointment and expressed his delight at the opportunity to discuss the rich tapestry of diplomatic relations that have long existed between Trinidad and Tobago and Japan. The dialogue underscored the enduring partnership between the two nations, with a particular focus on fostering further collaboration.
Ambassador Umezawa acknowledged Minister Browne's visit to Japan for the CARICOM-Japan Ministerial Meeting in December 2024 and expressed his eagerness to engage in further discussions with the Minister in the near future.
