MINISTER OF FOREIGN AND CARICOM AFFAIRS WELCOMES HIS EXCELLENCY DR. CHRISTOPHE NICOLAS EICK, AMBASSADOR-DESIGNATE OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY

On Tuesday 29th August 2023, His Excellency Dr. Christophe Nicolas Eick, Ambassador-designate of the Federal Republic of Germany, paid a courtesy call on Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, prior to presenting his Letters of Credence to Her Excellency Christine Carla Kangaloo, O.R.T.T., President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

The Ambassador-designate was accompanied by Mr. Hans-Christoph Anton, Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission and Mrs. Martina Bock de Oliveira, First Secretary and Head of Administration at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany. Minister Browne was accompanied by Ms. Neela Ram-Atwaroo, Permanent Secretary (Ag.), Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, His Excellency Dr. Paul Byam, Director, Bilateral Relations and Ms. Adanna Edwards, Foreign Service Officer III, European Affairs Division.

During the brief courtesy call, Minister Browne welcomed Ambassador-designate Eick back to Trinidad and Tobago and congratulated him on his appointment as Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. The Ambassador-designate served previously as the Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Port of Spain from 1993 to 1996. In noting that the Ambassador-designate would also be accredited to other Caribbean countries and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Minister Browne hoped that the Ambassador would build on the long successful relations that Germany had fostered with Trinidad and Tobago and other countries in the region.

Ambassador-designate Eick thanked Minister Browne for the warm welcome to Trinidad and Tobago. He expressed his pride in serving his country and highlighted the 60 years of fruitful bilateral relations between Trinidad and Tobago and Germany.

The Ambassador-designate took the opportunity to congratulate the Minister on Trinidad and Tobago’s recent successes in the multilateral arena, in particular the election of His Excellency Dennis Francis, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago to the United Nations, New York, as the President of the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) for the period 2023 to 2024; and the declaration by the United Nations of 11th August as “World Steelpan Day”.
