Minister's participation in US Independence Anniversary Celebration

On 30th June, 2022, Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs delivered remarks at a reception to commemorate the 246th Anniversary of the Independence of the United States of America.

The event was hosted by Mr. Shante J. Moore, Chargé d’Affaires a.i., of the Embassy of the United States of America and Mrs. Silvia Diaz de Moore at U-PickTT, Tucker Valley Road, Chaguaramas. In his address, Mr. Moore welcomed guests to the first in-person US Embassy Independence Day celebration in three years. He emphasised that the friendly relationship between the United States and Trinidad and Tobago exists not only at the government level but also among the people. He highlighted cooperation in the health, security and education fields and recounted the COVID-19 vaccine and health supplies donated to Trinidad and Tobago during the height of the pandemic.

Minister Browne highlighted the very warm and cordial bilateral ties enjoyed by Trinidad and Tobago and the United States of America dating back to the establishment of diplomatic relations on August 31st, 1962 and the long-standing people-to-people ties. The Minister also noted that the friendship with the United States of America is among the strongest and most important to Trinidad and Tobago.

The Minister acknowledged the increased and regular engagement with the US on critical issues, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, security cooperation, commercial ties and regional issues under the Biden-Harris administration and expressed sincere appreciation for the generosity of the United States in sharing COVID-19 vaccines. He also expressed Trinidad and Tobago’s commitment to engaging

the USA to realise the full potential of the new policy initiatives announced by the USA during the IX Summit of the Americas, including the Working Groups to address Caribbean challenges in the areas of energy security, food Security and financing, the US-Caribbean Partnership to Address the Climate Crisis 2030, the Americas Partnership and the Action Plan on Health and Resilience.
