New Head of Mission receives Instrument of Appointment

PORT OF SPAIN: 25TH APRIL, 2018

 

Senator the Honourable Dennis Moses, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs presented the Instrument of Appointment on behalf of Dr. The Honourable Keith Rowley, Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, to Mr. Wendell De Landro, new Head of Mission, on 10th April, 2018 at the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs. His Excellency Wendell De Landro will assume duties as the High Commissioner of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago to the Federal Republic of Nigeria with accreditation to a number of other countries in Africa, as well as Observer Status at The Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) and the African Union (AU).

During the brief presentation ceremony, Minister Moses congratulated High Commissioner De Landro on his appointment and thanked him for his willingness to serve Trinidad and Tobago. High Commissioner De Landro has considerable experience in energy matters, having worked for 41 years as a Petroleum Engineer.  Minister Moses indicated that His Excellency would be guided by the Government’s policy framework which underscores that the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs and its diplomatic network of overseas missions must be at the frontline of projecting the interests of Trinidad and Tobago internationally. 

Moreover, Minister Moses underscored to the High Commissioner that, the most important initiatives and objectives for Trinidad and Tobago’s embassies and consulates must entail:

  • Addressing the interests of Trinidad and Tobago in respect of trade and investment policies of other countries which are likely to adversely impact our interests;
  • Reaching and maintaining strong contact with the West Indian diaspora and promoting projects of mutual benefit to the diaspora communities; and 
  • Projecting our specific interest in oil, natural gas and energy services and supporting the efforts of the local private sector and state enterprises in marketing their products and services overseas. 

Highlighting that the countries and institutions to which High Commissioner De Landro will be accredited hold much promise and potential in terms of strengthening Trinidad and Tobago’s respective bilateral and multilateral relations, the Minister concluded by wishing His Excellency all the best as he proceeds to fly Trinidad and Tobago’s flag high on the African Continent.
