OFFICIAL VISIT OF THE HONOURABLE SHRI PABITRA MARGHERITA, MINISTER OF STATE FOR EXTERNAL AFFAIRS OF THE REPUBLIC OF INDIA TO THE REPUBLIC OF TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO

Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, hosted the Honourable Shri Pabitra Margherita, Minister of State for External Affairs of the Republic of India, at the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs on 23rd August, 2024. 

Minister’s Marghertita’s visit to the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs began with a flag raising ceremony during which the national anthems of both countries were played on the national musical instrument of Trinidad and Tobago by the National Steel Symphony Orchestra. 

The two ministers then proceeded to sign a bilateral Agreement between the two Governments for the Authorization of Gainful Employment of Dependents of Members of a Diplomatic Mission or Consular Post. This reciprocally beneficial agreement will positively impact the staff of both the High Commission for Trinidad and Tobago in New Delhi, India and the High Commission for India in Port of Spain. 

The Ministers and their delegations then engaged in a bilateral meeting which reflected on the long history and enduring friendship between the countries, marked by mutual respect and fraternity, highlighting that it served as a meaningful foundation upon which a strong bilateral relationship has been developed. Discussions also focused on the record of bilateral cooperation that exists and prospects for collaboration in areas of potential cooperation including culture, digital transformation, health, sport, training and as well as opportunities to work together in the multilateral arena. Both Minister Browne and Minister Margherita reiterated the commitment of their respective Governments to advance efforts with the aim of deepening and strengthening relations between Trinidad and Tobago and India. 

Minister Margherita was also received for a Courtesy Call at the Diplomatic Centre by Dr. the Honourable Keith Rowley, Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, and engaged in a subsequent Courtesy Call at the Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago.
