Senator the Honourable Dennis Moses attends the Sixth CARICOM-Cuba Summit.


PORT OF SPAIN: 8TH DECEMBER, 2017  

Senator the Honourable Dennis Moses, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs is leading this country’s delegation at the Sixth CARICOM-Cuba Summit which is held during the period 7th to 8th December, 2017 in Antigua and Barbuda. 

The CARICOM – Cuba Summit is held every three (3) years to coincide with the anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Cuba and the then four independent English-speaking Caribbean States (namely Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago) on 8th December, 1972. CARICOM – Cuba relations are characterized by sustained levels of technical cooperation at both the national and regional levels and by support for each other in areas of mutual interest in various regional, hemispheric and international fora.  

The items for discussion at the Sixth Summit include:  

  • The Mitigation of Risks of Natural Disasters and the Confrontation to Climate Change; 
  • Commercial Economic Relations between CARICOM and Cuba; and 
  • Current Status and Prospects for the Development of Cooperation Links. 
During the absence of Minister Moses, the Honourable Staurt Young, Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister and Minister in the Ministry of the Attorney General and Legal Affairs will perform the duties of Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs.
