Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs and His Excellency Fernando Nogales, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain meet to discuss priority issues for Trinidad and Tobago - Spain Relations

Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs met with His Excellency Fernando Nogales, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, at the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs on Friday 6th January, 2023.

The Minister and the Ambassador discussed a range of topics including Spain’s upcoming six-month assumption of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, from 1st July, 2023 to 31st December, 2023; upcoming high-level engagements in the region in 2023 that could benefit from greater collaboration with Spain; strategies underway and those to be implemented, towards increasing the voice and visibility of Caribbean States, with specific emphasis on Trinidad and Tobago, within Spain and the wider European Union system. The Minister outlined a number of issues of importance to Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean, including the finalisation of the Post-Cotonou Agreement between the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific Countries and the European Union; Climate Change Financing; the negative impact of the war between Russia and Ukraine on the Caribbean; and Reparations.

The meeting concluded with a commitment to reconvene in the near future to review and revise strategies discussed to further the relationship.
