The Honourable Stuart Young, Acting Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs met with His Excellency Arif Keshani, the newly-appointed High Commissioner of Canada to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobgo, on Thursday 8th December 2022, at the Ministry’s headquarters. This courtesy call took place prior to the High Commissioner’s presentation of his Letters of Credence to Her Excellency Paula-Mae Weekes O.R.T.T., President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces.
During the courtesy call, Minister Young welcomed High Commissioner Keshani to Trinidad and Tobago and emphasized the long-standing and friendly relations between Trinidad and Tobago and Canada, especially the people-to-people ties, as it relates to Canada being the home to a large Trinidad and Tobago diaspora community.
Both Minister Young and High Commissioner Keshani acknowledged that there was opportunity for building on the existing relationship between Trinidad and Tobago and Canada, including in the areas of trade, investment, energy and public utilities, via public-private partnerships.
The courtesy call ended cordially with both the Minister and the High Commissioner committing to further active engagement on bilateral issues of mutual interest.
