The Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs and the Institute of International Relations seek to expand collaboration

PORT OF SPAIN: 6TH JUNE, 2022

Senator the Honourable Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs met with Professor Jessica Byron-Reid, Director, Institute of International Relations (IIR) on Wednesday 1st June, 2022 at the Ministry’s headquarters. The meeting served to identify opportunities for greater collaboration between the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs and the Institute of International Relations.

During the meeting, Minister Browne outlined that the ground was fertile for greater collaboration between the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs and the IIR, and highlighted the importance of having a more fluid exchange between the two institutions including, in collaboration with the Institute, ongoing in-service training for officers of the Ministry on a more regular basis.

Professor Byron-Reid indicated that she viewed a relationship between the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs and the IIR as integral and desired to have the relationship deepened. The Professor noted that there was a great need for the IIR to explore the priorities of the Ministry and to weave these priorities into the teaching and content of courses at the Institute.

The meeting ended cordially with Minister Browne thanking Professor Byron for her commitment to deepen the relationship and collaborations between the Ministry and the Institute. In turn, Professor Byron expressed gratitude for the opportunity to have the exchange with the Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs and the Ministry.
