TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO AND OMAN ESTABLISH DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS

At a signing ceremony hosted by the Permanent Mission of Oman to the United Nations, New York on 27th March 2023, the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and the Sultanate of Oman established diplomatic relations.

Signing the Joint Communiqué on behalf of Trinidad and Tobago was His Excellency Dennis Francis, Permanent Representative of Trinidad and Tobago to the United Nations, and on behalf of Oman, His Excellency Mohammed bin Awad Al Hassan, Permanent Representative of Oman to the United Nations. The signing ceremony was witnessed by members of staff of both Permanent Missions.

Prior to the signing ceremony, the Permanent Representatives met and recalled the strong ties of friendship and cooperation that exist between their respective countries, including as members of the bloc of developing countries in the United Nations, the Group of 77, and as members of the Non-Aligned Movement.

On this historic occasion, the Permanent Representatives emphasized their joint desire to build cooperation between the two countries both in the multilateral context as well as bilaterally, in the areas of energy investment, technology, sustainable development and tourism.

Having established diplomatic relations with Oman, Trinidad and Tobago now has formal diplomatic relations with all Member States of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC), a political and economic union involving the six Arab states of the Persian Gulf.
