TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO JOINS WITH JAMAICA TO COMMEMORATE 54TH ANNIVERSARY OF INDEPENDENCE
“Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica are bound together by commonalities throughout various facets of civilisation, be it our history, culture, music, sports, ideals and visions for the future. It is no secret that nationals from Trinidad and Tobago greatly consider and share a sense of camaraderie with our Jamaican brothers and sisters in our mutual quest to unify our Caribbean people under an umbrella where race, ethnicity, class and other forms of discrimination will be a thing of the past.” These sentiments were expressed by Senator the Honourable Dennis Moses, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs at a reception to commemorate the 54th Anniversary of Independence of Jamaica.
During his remarks, Minister Moses assured nationals of both countries, that the Government of Trinidad and Tobago was committed to working assiduously with the Government of Jamaica to ensure that citizens benefit from better governance, better policies and a better livelihood.
In conclusion, Minister Moses conveyed best wishes for good health and success to the Government and People of Jamaica on behalf of the Government and People of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
His Excellency David Prendergast, High Commissioner for Jamaica to Trinidad and Tobago in his remarks, reiterated that for over the past five decades Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica have worked at the bilateral, regional and multilateral levels. High Commissioner Prendergast cited the Official Visit to Jamaica by Dr. the Honourable Keith Rowley, Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago as the most recent step to deepen cooperation between both countries. At the end of the Official Visit a Joint Communique was signed which sets the framework for cooperation between Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica.
This year Jamaica celebrated its Independence under the theme “Let’s get together and feel alright”.
