Senator the Honourable Dennis Moses, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs extended on behalf of the Government and the People of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, warmest greetings and best wishes for continued good health and happiness, to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second on the occasion of her 91st birthday. These sentiments were expressed at a reception held in honour of Her Majesty’s birthday on Tuesday 25th April, 2017 by His Excellency Tim Stew, High Commissioner for the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
During his remarks, Minister Moses praised Her Majesty on performing her duties unwaveringly and with much aplomb for the past 65 years, highlighting that “her commitment to serving is truly admirable and worthy of emulation.” He further noted, “over the decades, her indomitable spirit has remained the hallmark of the Monarchy and she continues to be a symbol of strength and stability to the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth.”
As a member of the Commonwealth,
Trinidad and Tobago has enjoyed fifty-five years of strong diplomatic and
bilateral relations with the United Kingdom. Minister Moses made note of this relationship
as he stressed that the Government of Trinidad and
Tobago through the appointment of His Excellency Orville London, High
Commissioner-designate of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago to the United
Kingdom will continue to work assiduously with the British Government to
further develop the relationship between the two nations.
Minister Moses also mentioned
key areas in which Trinidad and Tobago remained committed to developing and
strengthening bilateral ties with the United Kingdom. These areas include trade
and investment, education and academia, and security especially as it relates
to the global rise of terrorist threats and violent extremism.
During his address, His Excellency Tim Stew focused on developing and strengthening the progressive partnership between Trinidad and Tobago and the United Kingdom in a number of key areas including trade, education, corruption, criminal justice, security and gender based violence. High Commissioner Stew indicated that these areas were among his priorities in further developing the relationship between the two countries in the year ahead.
