TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO PARTICIPATES IN THE 4TH MINISTERIAL MEETING OF THE CHINA-COMMUNITY OF LATIN AMERICAN AND CARIBBEAN STATES (CELAC) FORUM IN BEIJING

On 13th May, 2025, the 4th Ministerial Meeting of the China-Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) Forum, was successfully held in Beijing, China.

Coming out of the Meeting, the “Beijing Declaration of the Fourth Ministerial Meeting of the CELAC – China Forum” and the “CELAC – China Joint Action Plan for Cooperation in Key Areas (2025- 2027)” were adopted. Trinidad and Tobago played an active role in intra-regional negotiations of both documents, which put forward commitments to deepening China – CELAC partnership in a range of areas, including the economy, facilitating people to people exchanges, and collaboration in tackling global challenges.

Joining representatives from across the Latin American and Caribbean region, Her Excellency Analisa Low, Ambassador of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago to the People’s Republic of China, participated in the meeting in recognition of CELAC’s role as an important mechanism for Trinidad and Tobago to promote regional dialogue and cooperation, and as testament to the close bilateral relationship shared between Trinidad and Tobago and China.

His Excellency Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China, delivered a keynote address to the Opening Ceremony of the Ministerial Forum on May 13, 2025, outlining initiatives proposed to be taken by the Chinese side in support of the LAC region. The Presidents of Colombia, Chile, and Brazil also attended and delivered remarks at the Ceremony.

On the eve of the Ministerial Meeting (i.e. 12th May, 2025), Ambassador Low participated in a meeting with His Excellency Wang Yi, State Councillor and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, with the Heads of Delegation from Caribbean countries that share diplomatic relations with China, to discuss matters of mutual interest to both sides.
