TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO SIGNS MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING WITH PERU

Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, signed, on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, a Memorandum of Understanding on the Establishment of a Political Consultations Mechanism between the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Peru.

The Agreement was signed by the Minister and his Peruvian counterpart, His Excellency Javier González-Olaechea, while attending the VIII Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Latin American and the Caribbean States (CELAC) in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines on March 01, 2024.

Trinidad and Tobago and Peru established diplomatic relations in 1968 and have an active bilateral relationship based on security and defence cooperation, disaster preparedness and cultural cooperation.

The purpose of this Memorandum of Understanding is for both countries to hold periodic political consultations with the goal of reviewing the current state of bilateral relations, reaching an understanding on measures to enhance bilateral relations, and exchanging views on regional and international affairs of mutual interest. These consultations may be held every two years or as agreed by both parties.

By means of this mechanism of political consultations, the Signatories, at their meetings, undertake to encourage and support various forms of cooperation, as well as the exchange of information, negotiation and implementation of other bilateral cooperation agreements including political, economic, investment and trade issues.
