Trinidad and Tobago’s High Commission in Nigeria participates in outreach initiative

The High Commission of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago in Nigeria responded to the humanitarian call and donated food and non-perishable items to a community of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Lagos, Nigeria.

Mr. Garth Lamsee, Acting High Commissioner for Trinidad and Tobago to Nigeria made the presentation on 6th February, 2017 at the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) Compound in Lagos. During his remarks, he stated, “The Government of Trinidad and Tobago feels a moral responsibility to stand in solidarity and compassion with the affected population of IDPs.

The initiative was part of a medical outreach for IDPs in Southwest Nigeria organised by the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) in collaboration with the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) under the theme, “We care, We share. NCFRMI/NAF”.

Ms. Sadiya Umar Faroq, Federal Commissioner of NCFRMI in Nigeria invited Mr. Lamsee to participate in the outreach initiative as a way to highlight the support the NCFRMI is receiving from countries such as Trinidad and Tobago. The initiative also offered Trinidad and Tobago a platform to promote the High Commission’s work to strengthen the bilateral relationship with Nigeria.

The Federal Commissioner thanked the Government and people of Trinidad and Tobago for standing in solidarity with the NCFRMI, and for this country’s assistance to the national humanitarian response efforts.
