Twenty-Second Special Meeting of CARICOM

PORT OF SPAIN: 21ST OCTOBER, 2021

Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, on behalf of the Prime Minister, Dr. the Honourable Keith Rowley, led the Trinidad and Tobago Delegation to the Twenty-Second (22nd) Special Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM, which was held via Videoconference on Monday 11th October 2021.

The meeting was convened by the Chairman of the Conference of Heads of Government, the Honourable Gaston Browne, Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, preparatory to the Region’s participation in the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) which will take place in Glasgow, Scotland, over the period 31st October to 12th November, 2021.

During the 22nd Special Meeting, the Conference received a detailed presentation by the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre, which has responsibility for coordinating the Region’s response to Climate Change, including adaptation and mitigation strategies.

Issues of significance considered by the Conference, particularly in relation to the vulnerability of the Small Island Developing States of CARICOM, included, the international community’s commitment to limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees celsius, the scaling up of climate financing and addressing issues such as management of Loss and Damage.
