Conferral of U.S. President’s Volunteer Service Award to Mrs. Joan Brammer, Public Affairs and Culture Attaché at the Embassy of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago in Washington, D.C., USA

Mrs. Joan Brammer, Public Affairs and Culture Attaché at the Embassy of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago in Washington, D.C., United States of America received the U.S. President’s Volunteer Service Award on 15th December, 2024. This award recognizes her work as President of the Washington’s Educational and Cultural Attachés Association (WECAA).

The President’s Volunteer Service Award was established in 2003 by the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation to acknowledge their outstanding volunteers by honouring individuals who positively impact communities in the United States of America and inspire those around them to take positive action.

As Public Affairs and Culture Attaché, Mrs. Brammer has faithfully served residents, the diplomatic community, and elementary school students in underserved areas of Washington, D.C.

Mrs. Brammer’s vision to incorporate acts of kindness through the Diplomatic Day of Kindness, which began in 2023 and endorsed by the Office of the Mayor of Washington, D.C., was recognized as part of her nomination. This led to a proclamation being presented to Mrs. Brammer for two consecutive years (November 8, 2023 and November 22, 2024) by Kimberley A. Bassett, Secretary of the District of Columbia.

Mrs. Brammer was also instrumental at securing Trinidad and Tobago’s selection for Washington D.C.’s Public School’s International Food Day in 2020 and 2024. This event celebrates global cuisine and cultural exchange in all Washington D.C. Public School sites.

Mrs. Brammer’s acceptance of this Award augurs well for the enhancement of cultural exchanges and people-to-people connections between Trinidad and Tobago and the United States of America. It will also assist in the further elevation of the profile of Trinidad and Tobago internationally.

Senator the Honourable Dr Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs joins the staff at the Ministry in extending heartfelt congratulations to Mrs. Brammer on the receipt of this prestigious Award and expresses sincerest gratitude for her tireless work in international diplomacy.
