Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs meets with newly appointed High Commissioner for Canada to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago

Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs met with His Excellency Arif Keshani, the newly appointed High Commissioner for Canada to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, on Thursday 29th December, 2022, at the Ministry’s offices at Prada Street, St. Clair.

Minister Browne extended a warm welcome to High Commissioner and acknowledged the long-standing positive relations which have existed between Trinidad and Tobago and Canada, even prior to this country’s Independence in 1962.

During the meeting, the Minister and High Commissioner discussed ongoing bilateral engagement between both countries in the areas of security, trade, investment and the labour programme for seasonal agricultural workers. They also discussed prospects for further cooperation and partnership in these and other areas of importance to Trinidad and Tobago, namely energy, public-private partnership and water conservation as well as the situation in Haiti and the convening of a CARICOM – Canada Summit in 2023.

The Minister extended his best wishes to the newly-accredited High Commissioner of Canada in his tenure in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to continuing to advance the already strong diplomatic and people-to-people ties between Trinidad and Tobago and Canada.
