Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs chairs Special Meeting of the Council of Ministers of CARIFORUM

Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, chaired a Special Meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Caribbean Forum of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (CARIFORUM) on 4thAugust 2021. The Delegation of Trinidad and Tobago to this Special Ministerial Meeting included representatives of the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, the Ministry of Trade and Industry, and the Ministry of Planning and Development.

This Special Ministerial Meeting of CARIFORUM, which coordinates cooperation between the Member States of CARIFORUM with the European Union (EU), considered the implementation of the development cooperation provisions of the newly negotiated Partnership Agreement between the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS, formerly known as the ACP Group of States) and the EU. Discussions were also held on the operations of the CARIFORUM-EU Economic Partnership Agreement and the CARIFORUM-United Kingdom Economic Partnership Agreement, through which CARIFORUM’s trading relationship with the EU and the United Kingdom are managed.

Minister Browne and other participating Ministers acknowledged the imminent end of term in office of Ambassador Irwin La Rocque, who has served the Region with distinction as Secretary-General of CARIFORUM. Minister Browne took the opportunity to express on behalf of CARIFORUM its gratitude and appreciation for Ambassador La Rocque’s service to the Region.
