Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, received a Courtesy Call from His Excellency Rashad Intigam oglu Novruz, Ambassador-designate of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago resident in Brasilia, Brazil, on 4th June, 2024 at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs.
This Courtesy Call took place prior to the Ambassador-designate’s presentation of his Letters of Credence to Her Excellency Christine Carla Kangaloo, O.R.T.T., President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
Minister Browne warmly welcomed Ambassador-designate Novruz to Trinidad and Tobago and congratulated him on his appointment as the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Trinidad and Tobago. Minister Browne noted the significant relations between Trinidad and Tobago and Azerbaijan since 2011, which he looked forward to strengthening in areas of mutual interest such as energy, trade, cultural and education exchange.
Ambassador-designate Novruz thanked Minister Browne for the gracious welcome to Trinidad and Tobago and underscored the fruitful relationship between Trinidad and Tobago and Azerbaijan since the establishment of diplomatic relations. He informed that Azerbaijan was keen to reinforce relations with Trinidad and Tobago through political and inter-parliamentary dialogue and cultural exchange with an emphasis on music.
Recognizing the significant distance between Trinidad and Tobago and Azerbaijan, both Minister Browne and the Ambassador committed to overcoming these challenges through regular contact and visits.
Minister Browne acknowledged the relations between Trinidad and Tobago and Azerbaijan at the multilateral level, and expressed gratitude for Azerbaijan’s support for the election of His Excellency Dennis Francis, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago to the United Nations in New York, as President of the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, and for co-sponsoring Trinidad and Tobago’s Resolution at the United Nations General Assembly which declared 11th August as World Steelpan Day.
In his concluding remarks, Minister Browne looked forward to future meetings with the Ambassador and to deepened relations between the two countries.
