Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, received His Excellency Wellington Darío Bencosme Castaños, Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, for a courtesy call on 6th February, 2025, at the Ministry’s headquarters. The meeting was convened on the occasion of the Ambassador’s completion of his tenure in Port of Spain.
During the discussions, the Minister highlighted the Ambassador’s noteworthy efforts to deepen the ties between the Trinidad and Tobago and the Dominican Republic. The parties also discussed interest in improving air connectivity between both countries with the anticipated result of improved trade and cultural engagement.
Emphasizing the importance the Dominican Republic places on its relationship with Trinidad and Tobago, Ambassador Bencosme thanked Minister Browne as well as the wider Government and private sector of Trinidad and Tobago, for their support. He expressed satisfaction in fulfilling the mandate of his President and Government while in Trinidad and Tobago. He recalled the strong professional and personal ties he developed, which he indicated will remain with him as he departs for his next assignment.
The meeting concluded with both parties indicating their willingness to continue to explore opportunities for the benefit of Trinidad and Tobago and the Dominican Republic, particularly with regard to collaboration on common issues of interest such as security, climate change and other matters of specific importance to small island developing states.
