MINISTER OF FOREIGN AND CARICOM AFFAIRS COMMEMORATES FIESTA NACIONAL DE ESPAÑA, THE NATIONAL DAY OF SPAIN

Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs joined Her Excellency María Cristina Pérez Gutiérrez, newly-appointed Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago in the commemoration of Fiesta Nacional de España, the National Day of Spain, at a reception held on 11th October, 2024, at the Ambassador’s residence.

Minister Browne took the opportunity to welcome the Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago and highlighted the importance of Spain as a partner in development. The Minister took note of the efforts by Spain to recast its historical relationship with Trinidad and Tobago and celebrated the numerous areas in which the two countries are aligned. There has also been a renewal of the relations between the Caribbean Community and Spain through the signature, in July 2024, of a new agreement for technical cooperation, food and nutrition security, health, climate change, and disaster risk reduction for the next five years.

During her address, Ambassador Pérez Gutiérrez expressed gratitude to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago for the support provided to the Embassy in the discharge of its duties. The Ambassador mentioned, in particular, commitment to the rules-based international system and multilateralism as instrumental to the relationship between the two countries.

The Trinidad and Tobago and Spain have enjoyed cordial and productive diplomatic relations since 1967.
