MINISTER OF FOREIGN AND CARICOM AFFAIRS HOLDS DISCUSSIONS WITH HIS EXCELLENCY BANG MOON KYU, SPECIAL ENVOY OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF KOREA AND MINISTER OF TRADE, INDUSTRY AND ENERGY OF THE REPUBLIC OF KOREA

Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, met with His Excellency Bang Moon Kyu, Special Envoy of the President of the Republic of Korea and Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy of the Republic of Korea, on 2nd November, 2023 at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs. Minister Bang is on a short visit to Trinidad and Tobago with a Korean business delegation. His Excellency Dongil Oh, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, and other Korean officials accompanied Minister Bang to the meeting.

During the meeting, Minister Browne reflected on the strong ties between Trinidad and Tobago and South Korea and the potential for expanded cooperation. In this regard, he welcomed the visit by the Special Envoy and the business delegation, which would redound to the growth of the bilateral relationship. The Minister also spoke on the development experience of South Korea, from which Trinidad and Tobago could learn, and encouraged South Korea to consider Trinidad and Tobago as a gateway for its relations with the Caribbean region.

Minister Bang presented several proposals for economic cooperation in the areas of digital transformation, green energy, the blue economy and tourism. Further discussions between local and Korean stakeholders will take place throughout the visit.

The meeting ended with both Ministers agreeing to collaborate towards ensuring the intensification of bilateral partnership between the two (2) nations.
