Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs holds discussions with the Minister of State, Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office of the United Kingdom

Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs held discussions with with The Right Honourable The Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon, Minister of State, Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland during a meeting on 28th June, 2024. This meeting took place in the margins of the 54th Regular Session of the General Assembly of the Organisation of American States (OAS) in Asunción, Republic of Paraguay during the period 26th to 28th June, 2024.

During the meeting, Minister Browne reminded Lord Ahmad of the many opportunities for economic collaboration and investment in Trinidad and Tobago, the framework for security cooperation, cultural cooperation, communications services and the importance of continued collaboration on building climate resilience and adaptation.

Minister Browne and Lord Ahmad also discussed the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), which will take place in Samoa during the period 21st to 25th October, 2024, under the theme “One Resilient Common Future: Transforming our Common Wealth". It is anticipated that discussions will focus on the needs of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and enhanced cooperation among Commonwealth nations.

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland became a Permanent Observer of OAS on 6th September, 1995.
