Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs meets with Chairman of the Commission for Attractiveness, Economic Development, Digital and Tourism of the Martinique House of Assembly

Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, met with Mr. Alexandre Ventadour, Chairman of the Commission for Attractiveness, Economic Development, Digital and Tourism of the Martinique House of Assembly on 9th November 2022. Mr. Jean-Yves Lacascade, Martinique’s External Action and Territorial Diplomacy Adviser, and His Excellency Didier Chabert, Ambassador of the French Republic to Trinidad and Tobago, accompanied Mr. Ventadour.

During the meeting, discussions focused on Martinique’s interest in becoming an Associate Member of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). Mr. Ventadour underscored the importance attached by Martinique to CARICOM as a regional institution. Minister Browne recognized Martinique’s unique history and culture, as well as its strong tourism industry, and the potential benefits to be accrued to both CARICOM and Martinique from increased interaction.

The meeting concluded with Minister Browne’s commitment to advance discussions within CARICOM on Martinique’s application for Associate Membership and to strengthening the bilateral partnership between Trinidad and Tobago and Martinique.
