The Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs received a courtesy call at the Ministry’s headquarters on Friday 4th April, 2025, from Her Excellency Ana María Sánchez Vargas de Rios of the Republic of Peru, to have a dialogue regarding her candidacy for the position of Assistant Secretary-General of the Organisation of American States (OAS).
Ambassador Sánchez Vargas de Rios was accompanied by Alternate Representative of Peru to the OAS, Minister Ana Gabriela Vásquez Rivasplata and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Peru to Trinidad and Tobago, Her Excellency Claudia Giuliana Betalleluz Otiura.
The brief discussion covered a range of ongoing issues including concerns currently facing the OAS.
In outlining her suitability for selection, Ambassador Sánchez Vargas de Rios highlighted her extensive experience in diplomacy and gave the undertaking that, if elected, among her areas of focus would be to foster greater dialogue among members to build consensus, address the challenges being faced by Member States such as crime and provide advice and support to OAS Secretary-General Albert Ramdin.
The meeting ended cordially with Minister Dr. Browne extending best wishes to the Ambassador and to the people of Peru.
