Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs meets with representatives of the Marubeni Corporation of Japan

Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, met with representatives of the Marubeni Corporation of Japan during a Courtesy Call today, 5th June, 2023, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs.

The Marubeni Corporation of Japan was represented at the meeting by Mr. Yuji Sato, who is responsible for all of Marubeni’s global power projects as Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Power Division; Mr. Mohamed Majeed, Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Chairman, Marubeni Power International of South Jamaica (SJPC); and Mr. Keisuke Harada, Senior Manager, Caribbean Operations at Marubeni Power International Inc.

Minister Browne and Mr. Sato discussed the relationship between Trinidad and Tobago and the Marubeni Corporation, through its investment in the Power Generation Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (PowerGen), as well as its role in the power generation sector in Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica. In this regard, Minister Browne observed that the excellent relationship between Trinidad and Tobago and Japan made possible significant investments in Trinidad and Tobago such as that of the Marubeni Corporation.

Mr. Sato recalled the recent visit to Trinidad and Tobago of His Excellency Yoshimasa Hayashi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, and congratulated Minister Browne on the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Trinidad and Tobago and Japan which will be celebrated in 2024.

The meeting concluded with assurances from the Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs of the support of the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs for the Marubeni Corporation and other investors from Japan.
