Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, met with His Excellency Fernando Nogales, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago on 10th October, 2023 at the headquarters at the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs.
During the meeting, the Minister and the Ambassador discussed Spain’s activities during the country’s six (6)-month rotation of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, which began on 1st July and concludes on 31st December 2023. These include the progress of the initiative from Spain to increase the level of visibility of the English-speaking Caribbean within the European Union.
The Minister outlined a number of issues important to Trinidad and Tobago and the wider Caribbean in order for the partnership with the European Union to continue to grow. Minister Browne commented favourably on the trajectory of the relationship, evidenced by increasing levels of contact between individuals and government agencies from the respective countries.
There was also detailed discussion on a wide range of issues including fisheries, negative listing, cultural cooperation, the Russia-Ukraine war and the crises in Haiti and the Middle East.
The meeting concluded with an exchange of perspectives on the upcoming National Day event of the
Embassy of Spain and with assurances of continued mutual support and consideration.
