MINISTER OF FOREIGN AND CARICOM AFFAIRS MEETS WITH THE SECRETARY-GENERAL OF THE ASSOCIATION OF CARIBBEAN STATES

Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, met with His Excellency Rodolfo Sabonge, Secretary-General of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS), at the Ministry’s headquarters on 9th July, 2024. Also in attendance at the meeting were Mr. Wayne Oudit, Chief Operations Officer of the ACS, Ms. Natasha George, Legal Adviser of the ACS; and Ms. Ayesha Wharton, Director, CARICOM and Caribbean Affairs, and Mr. Yohanssen Ramoutar, CARICOM Division of the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs.

Discussions during the meeting focused on the work of the ACS for 2024, the outcomes of the 29th Meeting of the Ministerial Council, which took place in May 2024, and the observance of the 30th Anniversary of the ACS.

Minister Browne noted that Trinidad and Tobago stands in solidarity with the ACS’s vision and mission and pledged Trinidad and Tobago’s support to the organization for its continued mission of facilitating development in the Greater Caribbean region. Minister Browne also extended his congratulations to Secretary-General Sabonge for the completion of a successful term in office and for the work he had undertaken at the ACS during his tenure, especially with regard to addressing climate change.

The meeting ended cordially with Minister Browne promising that Trinidad and Tobago would continue to collaborate with the ACS on its mission and reemphasized this country’s participation in the upcoming celebrations for the 30th Anniversary of the ACS.
