MINISTER OF FOREIGN AND CARICOM AFFAIRS MEETS WITH US ASSISTANT SECRETARY, BUREAU OF ENERGY RESOURCES

Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs met with Mr. Geoffrey Pyatt, United States Assistant Secretary, Bureau of Energy Resources, on 8th May, 2023 at the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs in Port of Spain. US Assistant Secretary Pyatt was accompanied by Her Excellency Candace Bond, Ambassador of the United States of America to Trinidad and Tobago and a technical team from the Embassy.

The Assistant Secretary is visiting Port of Spain to continue engagement with Trinidad and Tobago stakeholders to advance the U.S.-Caribbean Partnership to Address the Climate Crisis (PACC2030), which was launched at the 9th Summit of the Americas in Los Angeles in June 2022. At that time, fruitful discussions were held between CARICOM leaders, including Prime Minister Rowley, and US President Joseph Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. Since then, leaders and technical teams from both sides have been meeting to discuss follow-up, including the High Level Action Committees on energy security, food security and financing.

Minister Browne and the Assistant Secretary Pyatt exchanged views on these ongoing discussions as well as global and regional issues such as climate change and energy transition, the global energy situation, the war in Ukraine and regional developments. The meeting ended on a positive note with the recognition that the partnership between Trinidad and Tobago and the USA is very strong and that the work started at the 9th Summit of the Americas is progressing well.
