On 02nd January, 2025, Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne signed the condolence book opened at the Embassy of the United States of America in honour of the late James Earl Carter, Jr., former United States President, who died on 29th December, 2024.
Mr. Carter, who was 39th President of the United States of America from 1977 to 1981, will be remembered for his advocacy for civil rights, affirmative action, the right of African Americans to vote, the launch of the Black College initiative to improve funding to historically Black higher education institutions, as well as for his foreign policy accomplishments related to China, Panama, Haiti, and the Middle East, and his support for the establishment of the International Criminal Court.
Mr. Carter, who was also the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for the promotion of human rights, celebrated his 100th birthday on 1st October, 2024.
