Minister of Foreign and CARICOM delivers remarks at 1st OAS-CAF High-Level Dialogue on Transnational Organized Crime

While leading Trinidad and Tobago’s delegation at the 54th Regular Session of the General Assembly of the Organisation of American States (OAS) in Asunción, Republic of Paraguay during the period 26th to 28th June, 2024, Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, participated in the First High-Level Dialogue on Transnational Organized Crime organized by the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF) and the OAS.

The meeting was convened under the theme “How do we organize ourselves to confront organized crime?” and featured panellists from various sectors, including Government, Academia, the Private Sector and Civil Society. Minister Browne joined the distinguished speakers, which included His Excellency Santiago Peña, President of the Republic of Paraguay, and provided insights on the ongoing efforts of Trinidad and Tobago and CARICOM Member States to address transnational organized crime and illegal arms trafficking. He emphasized the importance of multi-sectoral and multilateral cooperation and collaboration in the fight against organized criminal groups and highlighted the work of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Implementation Agency for Crime and Security (IMPACS).

Minister Browne expressed appreciation for the invitation to participate in this important dialogue and looked forward to continued and valuable engagement with the CAF and the OAS on the issue.
