PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO AND UNECLAC

On Tuesday 10th September 2024 Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs and Mr. José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (UNECLAC) held a bilateral meeting to discuss issues related to the partnership between the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and UNECLAC.

Following the bilateral meeting was the signing of a host country agreement for the Eighth Caribbean Development Roundtable and the Thirtieth Caribbean Development and Cooperation Committee.

The Eighth Caribbean Development Roundtable and the Thirtieth Caribbean Development and Cooperation Committee (CDCC) sessions are currently taking place in Trinidad and Tobago. The hosting of this meeting illustrates the high premium that the Government of Trinidad and Tobago attaches to the work of UNECLAC in promoting sustainable development in this country and in the region.

The Caribbean Development Roundtable brings together regional and international development thinkers and practitioners, leaders and senior policy makers from ECLAC member States and associate member countries, representatives of the United Nations system, regional and international financial institutions, academia and civil society, including the private sector, as well as other development partners.

These CDCC sessions provide an opportunity for Caribbean countries to address ongoing challenges through fostering global solidarity and innovative solutions. The meetings also allow member states to assess past achievements and strategize with the Commission on how to further support development priorities, aiming to shift from vulnerability to resilience and from debt to sustainable economic growth.

On Tuesday, the two officials also signed the Host country agreement, the instrument which makes the hosting of this important meeting possible.
