Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, joined His Excellency Peter Cavendish, Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to Trinidad and Tobago, along with EU Ambassadors from France, the Netherlands, Germany and Spain in celebrating 50 years of diplomatic ties. The event was held at the EU Delegation’s offices and highlighted the enduring partnership built on trade, development and shared values since the signing of the African, Caribbean, and Pacific (ACP)-European Economic Community (EEC) Convention of Lomé, on 28th February, 1975.
Minister Browne reaffirmed Trinidad and Tobago’s commitment to deepening relations with the EU, and recognised its role as the country’s second-largest trading partner. He highlighted that the recent signing of the Samoa Agreement on 25th July 2024, served to strengthen the country’s political and economic cooperation with the EU and that Trinidad and Tobago was poised to benefit under the EU’s Global Gateway Investment Agenda in areas such as renewable energy, digitalisation and water management. The parties pledged to advance collaboration between the EU and Trinidad and Tobago for the next 50 years and beyond.
