TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO ESTABLISHES DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS WITH VIET NAM

On 1st February, 2023, the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago established diplomatic relations with the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam during a Signing Ceremony, which took place at the Permanent Mission of Viet Nam to the United Nations, New York.

His Excellency Dennis Francis, Permanent Representative of Trinidad and Tobago to the United Nations, New York, signed the Joint Communiqué on behalf of Trinidad and Tobago, while His Excellency Đặng Hoàng Giang, Permanent Representative of Viet Nam to the United Nations, New York signed on behalf of Viet Nam. The ceremony was witnessed by senior members of staff of both Permanent Missions.

Prior to the Signing Ceremony, His Excellency Dennis Francis and His Excellency Đặng Hoàng Gian met and recalled the strong ties of friendship and cooperation that already exist between Trinidad and Tobago and Viet Nam, both in the bilateral and multilateral contexts, including as members of the bloc of developing countries in the United Nations, the Group of 77, and as members of the Non-Aligned Movement. In this regard, they both agreed that the establishment of diplomatic relations provides an excellent platform for further cementing relations between Trinidad and Tobago and Viet Nam, including strengthening cooperation on critical issues of global importance, such as international peace and security, tourism, food security, climate change, culture and sports and sustainable development.
