TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO JOINS THE GLOBAL COMMEMORATION OF INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 2025

Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, delivered remarks at the Embassy of the United Mexican States on March 7th, 2025, in celebration of International Women’s Day 2025. Recognizing the theme set by the United Nations, “Equality. Rights. Empowerment,” Minister Browne reaffirmed Trinidad and Tobago’s commitment to advocating for gender equality and promoting women’s achievements across all sectors of society. He highlighted the country’s progress in women’s leadership, including having had two female Heads of State, a female Prime Minister and a Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Minister Browne also commended Mexico’s designation of 2025 as the “Year of the Indigenous Woman,” emphasizing the importance of acknowledging and empowering indigenous communities. He recognized the contribution of Trinidad and Tobago’s indigenous women leaders, including Ms. Anicia Ortancia Benjamin Cacica, of the Warao Community and Mrs. Jacqueline Khan of the Santa Rosa First Peoples Community. The Minister also expressed optimism for future collaboration between Trinidad and Tobago and Mexico in fostering cultural and people-to-people exchanges. As the nation celebrates International Women’s Day, he underscored the importance of collective efforts to ensure equal rights, opportunities and empowerment for women and all of humanity.
