MINISTER OF FOREIGN AND CARICOM AFFAIRS BIDS FAREWELL TO OUTGOING AMBASSADOR OF THE PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF CHINA

Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs bade farewell to His Excellency Fang Qiu, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, outgoing Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China during a courtesy call on 7th October, 2024 at the Ministry’s headquarters.

During the meeting, Minister Browne congratulated the Ambassador on a successful tour of duty. In particular, the Minister acknowledged initiatives started by the Ambassador, such as the Chinese Ambassador Scholarship Programme and other forms of outreach that had a positive impact on the people of Trinidad and Tobago.

Both Minister Browne and Ambassador Fang reflected on the warm friendship between Trinidad and Tobago and China and their excellent working relationship. Noting the multifaceted nature of the cooperation between both countries, they discussed collaborative activities undertaken in the areas of trade and investment, health, people-to-people exchanges and culture over the past four years.

In addition, Minister Browne and Ambassador Fang recalled the commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations in 2024, through which the peoples of both countries had grown in their knowledge and mutual appreciation. Discussions were also held on upcoming events and opportunities for strengthening ties between the countries.

His Excellency Fang’s tour of duty in Trinidad and Tobago concludes in mid-October 2024.
