MINISTER OF FOREIGN AND CARICOM AFFAIRS HOLDS DISCUSSIONS WITH HIGH COMMISSIONER OF THE UNITED KINGDOM OF GREAT BRITAIN AND NORTHERN IRELAND

Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs held discussions with Her Excellency Harriet Cross, High Commissioner of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, during a meeting on 30th October, 2024 at the Ministry’s headquarters. 

Discussions during the meeting focused on matters of multilateral importance including the recently concluded Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting and the issue of reparations. Minister Browne expressed the determination of CARICOM Member States to achieve meaningful progress with the United Kingdom on the issue of Reparatory Justice. 

Talks also focused on the issue of candidatures for the position of Judge of the International Court of Justice for the 2027 to 2034 period; the 29th Session of the Conference of States Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention to take place in November 2024 in the Hague; and a United Nations Resolution on Disarmament and International Security.

The meeting ended cordially with both parties looking forward to future discussions on major issues and to strengthening cooperation between Trinidad and Tobago and the United Kingdom.
